2008 Tournament: Confirmed, Date and Details Monday....
Finally, savoir for PvP, a real life tournament again....
When I heard about this I was over the moon in every sense of the phrase, now I need a half decent team for this, they better not screw it up... because for now I heart Anet....

To be clear, we have no evidence as to what this will be. More ATs, physical tournaments, or even something less.

Since the site is saying "As the year concludes, we also have some exciting news about the upcoming Automated Tournament season. Stay tuned for this announcement on Monday." I think it is obvious what kind of tournament to expect.

I would laugh very hard if there were still many good real world prizes. The MATs have every time about 60 guilds playing, that's 480 players. That's quite ridiculous to spread real life prizes among them.
I bet the next MATs simply have:
- Golden cape
- PvE rewards (green wintersday weapons, everlasting beetle juice tonic)

Several elimination rounds before you even qualify for a prize?
Hack, hack, hack. "Oh! We have 6 finalists!"

I really doubt it's costing anet much money to put out 16 video cards/ipods per month. It's not like Izzy is hopping in his honda civic and heading out to his local comp hardware store with the company credit card to buy random junk every month. They probably have advertisement/sponser deals with these companies that reduces, if not completely removes, the cost of this hardware to anet. If they don't, shame on them for not trying harder.

They have sponsors for that, so it doesn't cost them anything I guess.

We have information on the continued ATS support. How someone managed to stretch that into a "new world championship" I don't know...the magical power of the internetz I suppose.

From Anet:
Guild Wars 2008 Tournament Series
Automated Tournament Series to Continue into 2008
We are extending the Automated Tournament Series into 2008 with a number of improvements. For the first part of the series we will offer electronic gift cards from Amazon.com, allowing winners to select their own prizes from Amazon's vast catalog of products.
April marks the third anniversary for Guild Wars, and we plan to commemorate this event with a special anniversary tournament that will feature an expanded prize pool. After this concludes, we will transition from real-world prizes to exclusive in-game awards, including never-before-seen items. Rules for the 2008 Automated Tournament Series can be found here, and details about the in-game prizes will be released in the spring.
Are you serious Anet???? You fail, in game prizes, WTF???? too cheap, completely favoring PvE, I mean WTF really, no real world tourney, I'm very pissed right now....

Not that anyone should be happy about this... but with no more games coming out, how/why are they supposed to keep supporting GW1 competition with cash prizes indefinitely?
